and Mindful Self-Compassion Courses.
What is Creative Arts Therapy?
Creative Arts Therapy is based on the research supported process where engaging creatively in art-making, movement, music or creative-writing, within a therapeutic relationship, supports changes in a client’s inner world. It assists with improving a client’s personal growth and insight, processing of traumatic experiences, and resolving of inner conflicts.
What is Mindful Self-Compassion?
Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) combines the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion to enhance our capacity for emotional wellbeing. Usually offered in an 8-week programme, or 5-day intensive retreat, MSC uses meditations, exercises and experiential activities to help us learn how to become less critical of ourselves and more courageous and curious about all that life has to offer. We learn to become our own best ally instead of our worst enemy.
About Mara
Mara calls herself an insatiable creative and believes strongly that creativity is a necessary part of balanced wellbeing. She uses her creativity to find easefulness while living with chronic migraine pain. Mara uses her experience and long-term practice of mindfulness and meditation to develop a strong anchor to each moment which lets her be fully present with each client she sees. Mara uses her compassionate presence to help clients feel safe and comfortable to engage in creative processes. She uses multimedia and multimodal techniques in a client-led approach to foster holistic wellbeing. Mara feels that an authentic relationship is foundational to therapeutic engagement, and seeks to build this through genuineness, acceptance, and empathy. She aims to companion clients to foster positive self-regard through self-compassion and to tap into their own inner wisdom and strengths with creative arts.
